What are Panopto Channels?

Channels are folders where you can store reusable content. These may be lecture recordings that you would like to make available to students on future runs of modules, ‘subject matter’ videos which can be used year-on-year, or recordings that you wish to share with students across several modules or programmes, for example, a ‘Placement Choice’ briefing. A channel can also be used to share Faculty wide content, for example, a ‘Welcome from the Dean’ video.

Here at Brookes Panopto is structured in the following way:

  • Personal ‘My Folders’:  Each staff member has their own personal folder. When you record using Zoom the recording ends up in a sub-folder called ‘Meeting Recordings’ within your ‘My Folder’.  You can move a Zoom recording to a Moodle course folder or Channel, if appropriate.
  • Moodle course folders: Each Moodle course has its own folder – content in the folder is, by default, shared only with the participants enrolled on that particular course.
  • Channels: As described above these folders are intended for content you want to keep for several years and share with students across several cohorts. You can share the channel, or specific content within it, so that ‘Anyone at your org who has the link’ can view.

If you would like to store reusable content in a channel please contact your DMeLDs to discuss; we can set up the channel for you and assist in moving content there, please email our DMeLD address: bslearntechs
